Cranes

Overview

CRANES is a sweeping romance-drama set in 1970s Oakland, bookended in the present as two lovers in their seventies prepare to enter their next lifetime together. At once intimate and epic, the film spans decades of devotion, charting a relationship tested by loving someone through any and all conditions.

Cranes, the film’s namesake, symbolize loyalty, healing, and longevity, an irony and a promise, as our lovers spot them on the day of their transition. This is a modern-day Romeo + Juliet, but instead of forbidden love, it is a meditation on eternal love and how two people can carry one another through life’s deepest suffering, and find peace together in the end. Told across shifting perspectives and time, it is a portrait of devotion that grows stronger in the face of suffering, culminating in a poetic release.

Envisioned with a tender, art-house aesthetic in the spirit of A24 and Plan B, CRANES is both a love story and a requiem, lyrical, haunting, and profoundly human.
